Expert talk: Teacher Henk van der Kolk

🎓 Join Us for an Exciting Expert Talk on The usefulness of the distinction between qual., quant. and mixed research methods in EST!

Information about the topic:
Universities teach students to think like scientists: to ask meaningful questions, carefully consider how to answer them, systematically follow that process, and then present a well-formed conclusion. To develop this mindset, we introduce students to abstract subjects like research methods and statistics. Thesis supervisors often guide them in choosing between qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods, or whether they are doing research or design. In this talk, I will argue that many of these common distinctions are not as helpful as they seem and often cause more confusion than clarity when it comes to scientific thinking.

In this  session, we are going to explore why many of the common distinctions we make in scientific thinking may not be as useful as they appear and how they often lead to more confusion than clarity.
